![]() However, two of the biggest marketing points of pro (and where pro excels!) is it's core ML and Metal 2 integration, and many of the SDKs for core ML and Metal 2 require macOS >= 10.13. To people complaining about needing to update your computer to use this application, I hear you. On that note, it's actually shocking to me that the team released pixelmator in 2007 and offered free support and updates for more than a decade now. Another thing to consider is that developers need money (shocking, I know), and as such it's unreasonable to expect for a team to release a $30 app and maintain it for free forever. It's my opinion that this app rivals Adobe's offerings in many areas, but only for a fraction for the price. To people complaining about the price: no one else offers even near this quality for this price. I'd say to anyone wondering if it's worth the money that it absolutely is, especially with the massive free updates that the team has put out since it's release. I ended up buying Pro and have been extremely happy with it so far. I'd figure I'd follow up since people have been posting in this thread. Instead, you punish us with a so called "Pro" version which is just a way to say "Hey boy, now we get it right, but you know, this is a business after all". But we stick with it for the spirit and the hope that things will get better. We have been tricked again, despite our loyal long relationship with pixelmator and all its limitations. It's worth the try and I would recommend buying ot now for the reduced price, because if you wait for 1.1 the price will be $99,-ĭisappointing. For example you can now do white balancing the right way. Oh and there are minor things that are better too. More and more specific Pro features will be added with each 1.x release. In addition to that, the UI is completely new with (almost) no floating panels. The other main difference is that all edits are non-destructive. Here's the file that I had for the thumbnail I made for my Photomator video:Īs you can see, this has several layers of images and text that I've arranged to create an image.By Sebastiaan 08:32:27 As it stands now with the current version of Pixelmator Pro you'll have much and then I mean MUCH better performance with Pixelmator Pro compared to Pixelmator Classic. I use this app most often to create thumbnails for my YouTube videos. I used Photomator to see all the photos, select the ones I thought were best, and then edited those choice shots before I shared them with the family.īut my use case for Pixelmator Pro is totally different. As an example I was recently at a family event where I was the unofficial photographer and I took 300 photos that day. ![]() Those photos will get tweaks to exposure, colors, and detail, and I'm usually editing a whole "set" at once. Editing a whole bunch of photos: nah, not meant for that.įor some context on my use cases for these apps, I use Photomator to edit photos I take with my iPhone and Canon R6. You can edit single photos, and there are similar tools to those in Photomator, but it's really not the same workflow. If you wanted to draw some shapes or add a picture of you on top of Mount Everest for fun, you'd do all that here as well. ![]() If you wanted to add text to an image or draw with a digital paintbrush, you could do that in Pixelmator Pro. Pixelmator Pro is generally for making bigger changes to images (of video, but we'll focus on photos here). Photomator also syncs with your iCloud Photo Library, so every image (no videos) from the Photos app is going to show in Photomator and can be edited in the app. If you shoot photos on a dedicated camera, then this is the app for you, as you can import your photos and start editing them directly in the app. Maybe you want to repair some imperfections or change some colors, but in general, you want to touch up real life photos you took so that they look how you want. Photomator is for people who take photos and want to edit things like exposure, saturation, sharpness, and those sorts of things. Pixelmator Pro is an alternative to Photoshop. Photomator is an alternative to Lightroom. The company has a comparison page that might help, but people keep asking, so let me try to explain it two different ways. I keep hearing people asking what the difference is between the just-updated Photomator and Pixelmator Pro.
